A History of the Library
2006: Kathmandu University (KU) library In 2006 Celia Washington was invited to KU as artist in residence. After spending seven months there she returned to the UK to collect books for the library. With the help and generosity of her friends and the Friends of the Royal Over-Seas League, over 800 art books and DVDs were collected for the Art Department. These were sent to Nepal with the help of the British Council.
2010: Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Centre (KCAC) library Inspired by the success of the KU library, Celia began collecting books for the KCAC library. In the UK she collected over 3,500 art books and magazines. 2,400 of the books were generously donated by the Tate Library in London. The library was officially opened at Gyan Mandala on the 17th January by Bhola Bikram Thapa of Gulf Air, who helped to transport the books from London to Kathmandu.
2011: Patan Museum Library In March 2011 the library moved on loan, to the Patan Museum, and will be used as a joint reference library with KCAC.
2012 The Museum is cataloguing KCAC’s books and the library opened to the public on the 28th March 2012.
